Few public records are entered into databases in real time and contain all of the pertinent data. Often there is a delay of several months before the entry reaches the database. Even then many relevant details still won’t be included. The county’s physical files offer the fullest possible history of criminal charges. Think of this search as a mile deep and a foot wide. Features of this search include:
- County based searches go directly to the originating source of the record.
- County records are extremely complete – offering access to all levels of criminal cases.
- County records include non-conviction (open, dismissed, diversion, etc.) dispositions on cases.
- County databases must typically be accessed manually.
- Counties are relatively finite areas and it’s easy to regularly travel between multiple counties.
